 Funding Sources

MFAP annual budget of $500,000 is composed of funding from several different sources.

Ryan White Care Act – A federally funded response to the Emergency needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in 51 Emergency Metropolitan Areas. This funding stream supports services and programs including: Case Management, Emergency Financial Assistance, Nutritional Counseling, Alternative Therapies, Transportation Voucher, Food Pantry, Food Voucher, Treatment Adherence and Support Groups.

HOPWA/HUD – Federal housing grants that fund MFAP’s Independent Living Program. The ILP provides Rental Subsidy for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as Support Services such as Case Management for those individuals in the program.

DPH – This funding from the State Department of Health finances a Prevention Case Manager, Drug Treatment Advocacy, and Education and Community Intervention programs. Through these services at-risk individuals are identified and counseled on their behavior. Additionally educational and community awareness workshops are conducted.

Fundraisers – Events held by MFAP to cover administrative expenses as well as direct client services like Emergency Financial Assistance, that are not covered under other restricted funding sources. (e.g. funeral costs, car repairs, unexpected emergency expenses). Annual fundraising events include: Comedy Jam, Annual Giving Campaign, AIDS Expo, and our recent success Gay Bingo.

Operating Expenses

MFAP works hard to ensure that our expenses and costs are streamlined. It is our goal to provide the best possible services and we strive to make economical choices that will put every dollar possible toward helping people. With its low overhead, efficiency and fundraising events, MFAP is able to minimize its costs and expenses and still provide quality care, support services and programs to those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in the greater Norwalk area.

Working with local organizations, medical professionals, state and federal agencies and corporations, MFAP utilizes all its resources to maximize potential. Additionally, MFAP applies for various grants from businesses and philanthropic organizations. Such grants allow MFAP to defray its expenses while allowing it to hold community building activities and consumer gatherings, like consumer dinners with featured speakers.

MFAP is dedicated to meeting the needs of those living with the virus through our help improving the quality of life, easing HIV related stresses and offering hope to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  If you would like to help us help others, please see our donations and volunteer pages.
